Arenal Volcano N. Park
The Arenal Volcano National Park is located in the province of Alajuela. The park has as its main attractions the Arenal Volcano and the inactive Volcano Cerro Chato. (The Arenal Volcano has a height of 1,670 meters).
The last activity of the Arenal Volcano was in 1968. Prior to that date the Arenal Volcano was known as Cerro Arenal. But in July of that year the volcano generated an explosion, destroying the towns of Tabacon and Pueblo Nuevo, there were approximately 90 people dead.
Since then the volcano constantly emits gases and water vapor, in addition to some emission of explosions of pyroclastic materials and sometimes you hear strong rumbles. Its frequent activity makes the Arenal Volcano the most active and famous in Costa Rica.

Fauna
The Arenal Volcano National Park has an extensive rainforest, besides a great fauna, among its main species of fauna we can find the tepezcuintle, the tapir; The white-faced monkeys, Congo and Colorado; The coati, sloths and the jaguar. Also live many species of birds; it is very common to observe some birds such as hummingbirds, quetzals, parrots, sergeants, parakeets, and brown magpie.
Flora
The flora that we can find in the park is very extensive but among the most popular we will find guayabo del monte, laurel, cocobolo, loquat, raft, guarumo, pylon and different species of palms, heliconias, orchids, ferns and bromeliads.
