Tortuguero National Park was created in 1975, this park is located on the Caribbean coast of Costa Rica, 80 km north of the city of Limon. Its tropical rain forest covers an area of 29,000 hectares. In the park we can find over 400 species of trees, 404 species of birds and over 2,300 species of other plants.
Tortuguero is a important site in the arrival of Chelonia Midas and green turtles, this is the most important nesting area in the western Caribbean, while their forests are home to endangered mammals as sloths, monkeys, agoutis, coatis and manatees.There are also abundant birds such as toucans, trogons, egrets, herons and aninghas as well as crocodiles, turtles and a wealth of colorful butterflies, including Blue Morpho.
The tour includes a typical Costa Rican breakfast ( fruit juice, coffee, eggs and the popular “Gallo Pinto” ) Following breakfast, we continue to a Banana Plantation, where your guide will explain the process of growing and exporting that fruit.
Then enjoy a exciting boat trip to Tortuguero where you will learn about how nature works, and have a real idea of our Tropical Rainforest..
After lunch we will take a walk through the Tortuguero Village where we will have the oportunity to learn about the history of the town and its inhabitants. Returning to the bus, we head back to San José, making a rest stop along the way and arriving around 6:30 pm.
TURTLE NESTING can be seen from July to October.
NOTE: Turtle nesting tour is not available for the one day tour.
